The Gladstone Story

It all started with family, from the moment we picked up our first pair of scissors or made our first brew for our parents, to the moment we opened the doors on our brand new Barber & Bistro in Stalybridge, it’s always been about family.

Where It Started

Established in 2012 by Yezzan Khalil, Gladstone Grooming was a humble 2 chair barber shop that created the foundations of what stands today. Gladstone Grooming traded from Mossley over 8 good years.
During this time, the barber shop was featured in Barber Magazine and hosted a number of pop up events in the likes of Harvey Nichols and Selfridges. But brunch was still a far cry away.

What we had formed at Gladstone was more than just a barber shop, it was a culture of service and values toward your fellow man. The experience from start to finish was completely different to what was considered as a traditional trip to the barbers.
After a number of years trading from Mossley, Yezzan knew it needed to be bigger and was ready to broaden the horizons of what Gladstone could offer.

Hailing from Palestinian descent and the oldest of 6 brothers, food and eating together was a massive part of Yezzans upbringing, which later sparked the dream of building a place for people to come together over amazing food in a space so comfortable that it felt just like home.
Gladstone Barber and Bistro was the perfect opportunity for the dream to come to life. Having the two businesses under one roof allowed Yezzan the time and focus to keep a firm grip and drive the barber business whilst simultaneously building the bistro.

In 2016 we found the perfect space for the next step of the journey. After a lot of back and forth, a couple of failed leases and some renegotiations we finally got the keys to our dream home number 1.
